Crochet Cables with Nicola Tyrer
SUNDAY 8th JUNE 10.15am-12.15pm
Why should knitters get all the cables?!
Crochet can be a little too quickly dismissed for projects like cabled sweaters and scarves in favour of knitting, and it can make crocheters feel a little limited about what they can achieve with crochet. While cabling in crochet does look slightly different, you can absolutely make cabled fabrics using some crochet techniques, and in this workshop we will go through how to create some cabled effects in your crochet. There is something inherently cosy about a cabled project, and crocheters deserve squishy cosy cables too! Depending on your crochet speed, you will hopefully leave this workshop with multiple cabled swatches and the instructions to recreate them. We will also discuss how you could incorporate these new techniques into projects, the world is your oyster!
For this workshop you will need to be confident in the following techniques: holding yarn and hook, chaining, UK double crochet (US single crochet), UK treble crochet (US double crochet), front post stitches, back post stitches
WHAT TO BRING: Yarn and hooks will be provided for this class, though if you have preferences on your yarn weight and colour, you are more than welcome to bring your own.
Nicola is an incredibly keen crafter, and crochet and knitting pattern designer. She has a teaching background, so is very used to giving instruction and encouraging people to try things they don’t necessarily feel confident with! In addition to designing and writing her own patterns, she established and ran a Stitchcraft and Knittery club at her secondary school, which was rather popular with students from Year 7 to Sixth Form. As a result she can instruct both left and right handed crocheters, and is accustomed to fine-tuning techniques until you find the way that works for you.
