Introduction to Natural dyeing with Suzie Chapple of Redwoods Farm
SUNDAY 8th JUNE 10.15-12.15pm
Sharing the experiences of a self-taught natural dyer using foraged & grown your own dyestuffs. Learn about natural dyeing techniques, get hands on & come away with your own hand dyed mini-skein of Redwoods Fibre from Redwoods Farm regeneratively farmed Highlander sheep (redwoodsfarm.co.uk).
This workshop will include an overview of natural dyeing, with an introduction into materials that can be foraged and grown yourself to use for dyeing, how to use them and how modifiers can improve or change the colours you achieve. You will be hands on to dye a 50g skein of Redwoods Fibre DK or 4ply yarn and use a modifier to further change the colour (if you wish), watching the alchemy at work! This newly dyed skein will be yours to take home, to create something special as a memento after the workshop (do tag using #RedwoodsFibre in your social posts @RedwoodsFm with your makes!).
WHAT TO BRING:
Bring a waterproof apron (or wear clothes you don’t mind getting splashed) & something to take notes if you wish
This is the perfect session to dip your yarn into the dyebath water of the world of natural dyeing.Growing up at Redwoods Farm, Suzie helped fund her way through Vet School by working with a local shearing team in Somerset.
