Spinning: Traditional spinning using a Drop Spindle

Learn how to spin your own yummy yarn the ancient way using a drop spindle and locally sourced sheep fleece. Included in the cost of this class is your own spindle kit comprising of a handmade spindle (see secondary photo), fibres and full instructions, so you can take away your work, and continue with your spinning practice. You will also find out about preparing fleece and fibres for spinning, the different types of fibres you can spin, plying and the history of this amazing and valuable skillset.
 
Jean is a textile artist and tutor based on the southern edge of Dartmoor and very much influenced by the natural landforms and endlessly changing colours of her surroundings. She  teaches various textile skills including feltmaking, spinning, embroidery and weaving using local materials wherever possible. She sees her role as to empower and encourage her students to be creative and build their artistic confidence.
